Hi, my name is Alex, and since 2007 I’ve made mashups under the name Hawkins. I posted them all across the Internet - published on Blogspot and Tumblr, hosted on Dropbox, Mediafire, Soundcloud, and YouTube, and promoted first on mashup message boards like GYBO and Mashstix, then as the bootleg “scene” waned, on places like /r/Mashups (if at all).

My journey with mashups has more or less dovetailed with my personal experience with the internet at large - new and uncharted at the beginning, carrying the promise of boundless frontiers to explore, then gradually calcifying into like 3 places to go, all of them too big and commercialized to have any real fun.

Every six months or so, someone will send me an email or leave me a comment looking for a specific song I made, and usually my response is “ah, yeah, I’ve been meaning to make a website because all these platforms have all these restrictions”. Well, I finally did it. It still needs some work, but I’ve learned it’s better to make something and be done with it than it is to work on something forever and never be done with it.
